Why Do I Need a Crown?

Dental crownCrowns are a dental restoration that fully cover the portion of a tooth which lies at and above the gum line. Crowns are designed to protect the underlying tooth and maintain your smile. A crown may be recommended to support a weakened tooth (one that has had many fillings), to protect a tooth with extensive damage or to support and protect brittle teeth after a root canal. Dental crowns are also placed on top of dental implants when replacing a missing tooth.

Crowns can also be used to cover a discolored or aesthetically unappealing tooth, which allows it to blend in with surrounding teeth and create a more attractive smile.

Porcelain crowns and partial crowns (inlays and onlays) are not right for all situations—especially for high-stress chewers, grinders, and clenchers. However, in most cases they are the most tooth-friendly and conservative dental restorations (teeth replacements) available.

Using all porcelain, we can often strengthen your tooth, saving more of your own natural enamel. Porcelain crowns are beautiful and long-lasting.

High-stress situations where longevity and durability are more important than esthetics, full gold crowns are the proven standard that most experienced dentists choose for their very own back teeth. Newer zirconium crowns are improving every day and will likely replace gold crowns for some of these high-stress restorative situations.

Our Dental Crown Procedure

We will take multiple impressions of your teeth when he is fitting a crown.

When a crown is needed, our doctors prepare the tooth to ensure the decay is removed. Once the decay is removed, they take impressions of the upper teeth, the lower teeth and a bite registration impression. These impressions ensure that you get a precise fit for your bite, and that your new crown will be durable and function properly.

Our dentists will send your impressions to an excellent domestic dental lab to have your crown made. Our doctors work with only the best labs and makes sure every detail of the crowns they create is a perfect fit.

While your final crown is being made, you will be given a temporary crown to protect your tooth. It will take approximately 3 weeks to have your final crown made and returned to our office.

Once your new crown is ready, our dentists will place it and make sure it fits correctly and looks just right. Any adjustments will be made until the bite is even and you are comfortable and happy with your new smile.

Comfortable and Durable Dental Bridges

Dental Bridge

A bridge can be used to fill in the gap left by a missing tooth.

Bridges are used to fill gaps between the teeth when a tooth is lost or needs to be removed. We have over 40 years of experience crafting custom bridges for patients. We carefully crafts his bridges using extremely durable materials and color matches the bridge so that it blends in with your other teeth.

When is a Bridge Needed?

When you have a missing tooth or teeth, the adjacent teeth may slowly shift out of place to fill the gap. This changes the way your teeth fit together. Your teeth may become harder to clean, which can lead to tooth decay and gum disease and your jaw may hurt from a poor bite. It is important to fill gaps between teeth, and a bridge is one of the best ways to accomplish that.

Is a Bridge the Best Option?

In many cases, a dental implant is preferable to a bridge when you have missing teeth. Come in for a consultation with one of our doctors to discuss the option that works best for you.
